The Neshannock High football team jumped on Vincentian early and never looked back in a 46-6 rout last night.
The Lancers’ Big Seven win moved them to 5-0 in conference play, 6-0 overall. Vincentian slipped to 1-3 and 1-5.
Neshannock is ranked No. 4 in the WPIAL Class A ranks by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Senior running back Eli Owens rushed for 173 yards on 18 carries and sophomore quarterback Frank Antuono added 89 yards on three tries. Antuono also was 6 of 12 through the air for 83 yards.
The playoff-bound Lancers scored seven of the nine times they had the ball.
Jeff Sanfilippo got things started for the Lancers with a 12-yard run early in the first quarter. Sanfilippo played well on defense as well, coming away with two interceptions.
Neshannock added a 1-yard pass from Antuono to Jimmy Medure and a 9-yard run by Robert Lindsey to go up 20-0 at the half.
The third quarter was all Lancers. Rocco Fazio opened with a 6-yard touchdown run and Owens added a 7-yard run before Antuono scored on a 35-yard scamper. The mercy rule kicked in with 2:58 to play.
Neshannock’s final touchdown came on a 16-yard run by Jonah Viatale, before the Lancers lost the shutout on a 56-yard run by Devin Newell late in the game.
“We played a good game and executed well on both sides of the ball,” Neshannock coach Fred Mozzocio said. “We took it to them in the second half.”
Still, Mozzocio said, the team remains a work in progress.
“We’re just trying to get better every week,” he said.
Neshannock travels to Rochester on Friday night.
