’Cats drop heartbreaker to Chartiers-Houston
Shenango (20) vs. Chartiers-Houston (21)
Written: Sep 11, 2010
Chartiers-Houston placekicker Zack Hamilton did not even come close in missing two first-half extra points against Shenango last night.
But he made the kick that counted — a 29-yard field goal as time expired — to lift the Buccaneers to a 21-20 nonconference win.
After Hamilton missed the two attempts, Chartiers-Houston (1-1) went for two (and missed) the next time it scored.
The Wildcats (1-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead on a 56-yard run by Avery Pears in the first quarter. Scott McBride added a 15-yard run for Shenango to tie the score at 12-12 at the half.
A 1-yard run by Aaron Grymes and a conversion pass from Grymes to James Jacobs put the Wildcats ahead 20-12 after three quarters. But the Buccaneers scored on a 34-yard run by Mykel Dorsey in the fourth quarter, setting up Hamilton’s heroics as the clock ran out. Hamilton made the field goal despite a bad snap which the holder had a tough time getting a handle on.
McBride rushed for 109 yards on 14 carries, Pears added 77 yards on seven carries, Joe Seaburn chipped in with 66 yards on 13 carries and Grymes checked in with 52 yards on 13 carries.
Shenango hosts South Side Beaver in the Big Seven Conference opener on Sept. 18.
