Scotties roll past Leechburg for second win

LEECHBURG — The Union High football team is on a roll.
The Scotties won their second game of the young season in impressive fashion, 35-0 over Leechburg in nonconference action last night.
Senior running back Drew Robinson rushed for 111 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns.
Quarterback Joe Salmen, also a senior, was 5 of 13 through the air for 131 yards and two scores.
Robinson opened the scoring with a 72-yard run and before quarter’s end, Union held a 13-0 advantage courtesy of a 37-yard pass play from Salmen to Clifford Clark.
The margin ballooned to 27-0 at the half courtesy of a 41-yard pass from Salmen to Robinson, followed by an 11-yard run by Salmen.
Robinson closed the scoring in the third quarter with a 74-yard fumble return. Elijah Williams caught a conversion pass to allow the mercy rule to kick in.
The Scotties return to Big Seven Conference action when they host Rochester at 7 p.m. Friday. The Rams (2-0 in the conference, 2-0 overall), who are coached by former Shenango star Gene Matsook, are ranked No. 2 in the WPIAL in Class A by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Rochester rolled past Matsook’s Shenango alma mater 35-0 last night.
