Last night was a rough one for the Shenango High football team.
The Wildcats dropped a 49-16 nonconference road decision to Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic and saw their starting quarterback leave with an injury.
Junior quarterback Evan Kendall left the game in the second quarter with an undetermined injury. He was replaced by junior Alex Young.
Shenango (6-3 overall) clinched second place outright in the Big Seven Conference last week. The Wildcats will host a WPIAL Class A playoff game last week.
Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic (9-0) goes into the postseason as the champion from the Black Hills Conference. The defending PIAA Class A champion Trojans have a 25-game win streak dating back to the first game of last year.
Hayden Guemble rushed for 141 yards on four carries to lead Shenango.
North Catholic jumped out to a 28-0 lead after the first quarter and extended the margin to 49-0 at the half. The Wildcats scored on a 1-yard run by Young and a 96-yard run by Guemble. Stuart Moore added both conversion runs.
