CORAOPOLIS — The Union High offense never got going last night.
Cornell’s offensive unit, meanwhile, only needed a quarter to get clicking.
The Scotties managed just 107 yards of total offense in a 40-0 Big Seven Conference loss to Cornell.
Union (1-5 conference, 2-6 overall) reached the Raiders’ 27 in the first quarter before turning the ball over on downs. The Scotties would penetrate to the Cornell 19 in the second quarter, but again turned it over on downs.
It was as far as Union would march the rest of the way.
“There is no good in what happened tonight,” Union coach Stacy Robinson said. “This is something the community has to look at.
“We were outmanned up front from the beginning. We’re the same size as other Class A schools, but we don’t have any size or any numbers.”
Cornell (4-2, 5-3) led just 8-0 after one quarter. But the hosts outscored the Scotties, 20-0, in the second quarter for a 28-0 halftime advantage.
“The field was a mess and we played like the field,” Robinson said. “They showed they were the superior team. I didn’t think we’d get beat like this.”
Drew Robinson paced the Scotties with 24 yards rushing and Carrington Bell added 23. Quarterback Joe Salmen was 6 of 13 through the air for 37 yards with two interceptions.
Derrick Jackson and B.J. Lipke scored two touchdowns each for Cornell. Shawn Owens was 6-of-8 passing for the Raiders for 182 yards and two touchdowns.
Union closes the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday when it hosts Western Beaver in conference action.
