'Hounds start strong, hold off East Liverpool

The Wilmington High football team jumped on East Liverpool (Ohio) early and never looked back in a 28-13 nonconference win at Greyhound Stadium on Friday night.
Wilmington (3-0 overall) took a 14-0 lead after one quarter and held a 21-7 margin at the half.
Quarterback Spencer DeMedal opened the scoring with a 34-yard run and later in the frame connected with Bryson Verrelli on a 37-yard touchdown pass.
Kyle Slicker’s 69-yard kickoff return gave the Greyhounds additional breathing room. Cameron Marett closed out the scoring with a 12-yard run. Jacob Winters added all four PAT kicks.
Mark Shenker led Wilmington on the ground with 94 yards on 13 carries. DeMedal chipped in with 77 yards on 12 carries. DeMedal was 7 of 10 through the air for 78 yards. Verrelli finished with three catches for 58 yards.
Brothers Cameron Marett and Colton Marett had interceptions for the Greyhounds and DeMedal added a fumble recovery. The Potters slipped to 1-3.
The Greyhounds travel to West Middlesex on Friday.
