Ellwood leads early, but falls to Derry

For one half Friday night, the Ellwood City Lincoln High football team looked like it might be on its way to its first victory of the season.
Then the second half happened.
The Wolverines imploded in the final two quarters en route to a 27-6 nonconference loss to unbeaten Derry at Ewing Park's Helling Stadium.
Ellwood is now 0-7 overall. Derry improved to 8-0.
Luca Botti got the scoring going for the Wolverines on a 31-yard pass from Jordan Recce.
But then Tyler Balega took over for Derry, scoring on a 23-yard run, 37-yard pass and a 7-yard run.
A 98-yard Gannon Lenhart interception return sealed the deal for Derry.
Richard Pitrelli rushed for 122 yards on 17 carries for Ellwood.
Recce was 5 of 14 through the air for 86 yards for Ellwood with two interceptions.
