Mohawk comes up short against Hopewell
Mohawk (20) vs. Hopewell (30)
Written: Sep 24, 2016
Jaydon Johnson spent much of his night on the run for the Mohawk High football team.
While the senior quarterback put up big numbers as a result, the Warriors still came up short 30-20 in their non-conference clash at Hopewell.
Johnson scrambled his way to 157 yards on 18 carries as Mohawk slipped to 0-4 overall. The Vikings are 5-0.
The Warriors' touchdowns came on a 4-yard pass from Johnson to Damien Nowicki. Johnson later scored on a 2-yard run and Nowicki closed out the scoring with a 17-yard scamper.
Mohawk lost starting running back Cayne Yakubik to an injury early in the game while he was serving as a blocker. He did not return.
"We played hard," Warriors coach Tim McCutcheon said. "It's the first game that we put four quarters together.
"We go the way of our front line — they're our leaders," he added. "I think a lot of running backs would like to run behind our line."
The Warriors host South Side Beaver at 7 p.m. next Friday.
