Beaver Falls cruises past Ellwood City

Beaver Falls scored 25 points in the third quarter to put a close game with Ellwood City Lincoln out of reach.
Leading just 20-6 at the half, the Tigers broke it open after intermission en route to a 45-13 WPIAL Class AA Midwestern Athletic Conference victory last night.
Beaver Falls, ranked No. 2 in the WPIAL according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and No. 3 in the state poll, is now 3-0 in the conference, 3-0 overall. The Wolverines slipped to 1-2, both in the conference and overall.
The Tigers finished with 367 total yards — 188 rushing and 179 passing — to Ellwood’s 92. Jared Meyers led the Wolverines with 21 yards on nine carries.
Peter Lyons and Sage Curry scored first for Beaver Falls. Trailing 13-0 in the second quarter, Nick Ioanilli pulled Ellwood to within 13-6 with a 3-yard run. But the Tigers scored one more time before intermission and then reached paydirt four times in the third quarter to seal the victory.
The Wolverines committed four turnovers in the game — one interception and three fumbles lost — and also lost 33 yards on the ground.
The Wolverines travel to Chartiers Valley for a non-league game at 7 p.m. Friday.
