Ellwood City (13) vs. Hopewell (15)
Written: Sep 10, 2016
The Ellwood City Lincoln High football team came up just short of its first win of the year Friday night.
A fourth-quarter field goal stood up as the deciding points in Hopewell's 15-13 WPIAL Class 3A Beaver Valley Conference victory at Ewing Park.
Eli Loncar hit the field goal from 40 yards out to improve the Vikings' record to 1-0 in the conference, 3-0 overall. The Wolverines scored on an 11-yard pass from Jordan Recce to Toby Kelly later in the period, but the potential game-tying conversion pass failed.
Donavin Chambers opened the scoring for the Wolverines on a 56-yard run in the first quarter. Jonathan Jefferson tacked on the point-after kick.
Chambers rushed for 67 yards on eight carries to lead Ellwood and Richard Pitrelli added 38 yards on 13 tries.
Recce was 6 of 21 through the air for 58 yards.
The Wolverines travel to Beaver Falls next Friday night in conference action.
