SLIPPERY ROCK — The Wilmington High football team had a solid playoff tuneup Friday night.
The Greyhounds topped Slippery Rock, 42-23, in a nonconference game on the road to end the District 10 regular season.
Wilmington (6-4) takes on Cambridge Springs to open the Class A playoffs next weekend at a time and place to be announced. Slippery Rock (5-5) meets Fairview in the Class AA playoffs.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead on the strength of a 23-yard run by quarterback Spencer DeMedal and 2-yard run by Jack Patton.
DeMedal added an 11-yard burst in the second period, but the Rockets scored a field goal and touchdown to pull to within 21-10 at the half.
But second-half runs of 1 and 21 yards by Kyle Slicker and DeMedal closed out the scoring with a 33-yard run.
Cameron Marett led Wilmington rushers with 116 yards on 10 carries and DeMedal checked in with 106 yards on 11 tries. Patton had 65 yards in nine carries and Slicker added 54 on nine.
