Shenango holds off Summit Academy

The Shenango High football team needed a win and got it Friday night.
The Wildcats pushed across three first-half scores en route to a 16-8 WPIAL Class 1A Big Seven Conference victory over visiting Summit Academy.
Shenango (2-3 conference, 2-4 overall) keeps its playoff hopes alive, while the Knights fall in behind at 2-4, 2-4.
The 'Cats pushed across an early touchdown courtesy of a 58-yard run by Braydan Smiley. Bret Hoover added the conversion run.
Shenango added a second-quarter safety and then received some insurance with a 39-yard run by Lou Domenick in the third.
Kyree Gholston's 32-yard run put Summit on the board in the final period.
Smiley rushed for 137 yards on 16 carries for the winners, while Hoover added 95 yards on 13 tries.
Hoover also had eight tackles on defense.
The Wildcats travel to Cornell at 7 p.m. next Friday.
