Aliquippa remains unbeaten with victory over Mohawk

ALIQUIPPA — The Mohawk High football team didn’t fare as well this time against a highly ranked opponent.
Aliquippa breezed to a big lead and rolled to a 35-14 Midwestern Athletic Conference decision over the Warriors.
The Quips (8-0 conference, 8-0 overall) are ranked No. 1 in the WPIAL in Class AA by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Last week, Mohawk (2-5, 2-6) dropped a 21-14 verdict to second-ranked Greensburg Central Catholic (Class AA). The game was tied at 14 with two minutes left.
Ben Cobb’s 29-yard run for the Quips with 11:46 remaining put the game into the mercy rule at 35-0.
Johnny Beatty got the Warriors on the board with a 10-yard run. Woody Holland closed the scoring on a 6-yard run, and Shane McFarland added the two-point conversion run.
John Fleck led Mohawk with 36 yards rushing on four attempts. Beatty was 8 for 22 through the air for 100 yards with two interceptions.
Aliquippa is one game closer to finishing the regular season unbeaten for the 11th time in school history.
Mohawk hosts Laurel in a conference encounter at 7 p.m. Friday.
