Ellwood comes up short against Quaker Valley

Statistically, the Ellwood City Lincoln High football team kept pace with Quaker Valley on Friday night.
On the scoreboard, however, the Wolverines did not.
The Quakers scored twice in the fourth quarter en route to a 35-13 WPIAL Class 3A Beaver Valley Conference victory over winless Ellwood City at Helling Stadium.
The Wolverines ended their season at 0-6 in the conference, 0-9 overall. The Quakers finished at 2-4, 5-4.
Ellwood held an edge in first downs (13-12) and trailed just 183-124 in net rushing. The Wolverines won the battle of passing yards 200-176 with junior Andrew O'Brien stepping in at quarterback for injured senior Jordan Recce.
Quaker Valley led 21-0 before the Wolverines broke into the scoring column late in the second quarter on a 5-yard pass from O'Brien to Richard Pitrelli.
Luca Botti pulled Ellwood to within 21-13 after three quarters on an 83-yard pass from O'Brien.
But the Quakers scored twice in the final frame to put the game out of reach.
O'Brien rushed for 77 yards on 20 carries and was 10-of-19 through the air with one interception for 200 yards.
Botti caught three passes for 132 yards.
