The Shenango High football team ended the regular season on a tough note Friday night.
A week after winning their first conference championship since 2003, the Wildcats dropped a 28-16 decision to visiting Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic in nonconference action.
Shenango heads into the postseason at 7-2. North Catholic, ranked No. 2 in WPIAL Class A by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, is 9-0. The Wildcats went into the game ranked fourth in the P-G poll.
The Wildcats trailed from the start. Dylan Kleckner’s 28-yard field goal proved to be the only points for Shenango until the final period. North Catholic led 21-3 at the half.
Tyler Root scored on a three-yard run and Ricky Lanigan crossed the goal line on an 11-yard pass from Evan Kendall in the fourth quarter.
Jason Wallace led the Wildcats with 105 yards rushing on 14 carries. Brandon Ryder snared five passes for 79 yards and Lou Domenick added 41 yards on three tries.
Shenango will learn its opening-round WPIAL playoff pairing Monday night.
